3. use two vocabulary fix-up strategies.
Do Now: What strategies do you use when you come across a word you don't know when you are reading? List three things you might do. What do you really do?Fix-up strategies for reading comprehension - new words
1. Use a dictionary.
2. Ask your teacher.
3. Take a guess based on the context.
4. Try to break the word into smaller parts. (prefixes, roots, and suffixes.)

Roots and Affixes Handout: Along with the literary terms and the vocabulary from our reading, you are also responsible for the meaning of the first 15 word parts on your list.
Homework: Write a sentence for four of the words from Bradstreet's poem. make sure you use a context clue that shows that you know the meaning of the word.
Example: The baby's non-stop piteous cries caused the neighbor to feel the baby was being abused.
