Do Now: Elizabeth' life ( as well as the rest of the other people accused ) rests in Mary Warren's hands. Will she testify that Abigail and the girls are lying? Why?

1. Reverend Hale is put to the test.
         How does he handle John Proctor's fury?
         Is he in a double-bind situation? Why?
2. Why does Proctor say "I will not give me wife to vengeance"?
         Double-Bind???
3. Johns tells Mary that "Hell and Heaven grapple on our back, and all our old pretense is ripped away." What pretense is he referring to? Why will this help Elizabeth?
         Double Bind????
Homework: Finish all reading questions for Act 2. This will be graded tomorrow!
