Today's Task: Double Binds in The Crucible
Imagine you have been accused of witchery by someone in Salem in 1692. What is the specific thing you or your spirit is accused of doing? Who accused you and why? What are your options? What will you do?
Watch the PowerPoint for your options:
1. Open Google Docs and create your essay describing your double bind.
A double bind exists when there is no good solution to a problem or dilemma. "You are damned if you do, and damned if you don't."
After you have completed the essay and proofread it:
2. Go to The Quote Garden (or www.quotegarden.com/index.html). Scan the index for topics that might apply to your essay. (I liked Self Respect, Decisions, Integrity, etc.)
3. Once you have selected your quotation, copy and paste it into your document as the title or final line.
This assignment must be completed today. Work Purposefully. (100 points.)
Homework. Test on Act 1 and 2 tomorrow. The test will include definitions and examples of literary terms such as metaphor, conflict, motivation, double bind, etc. as well as class notes and handouts!
