Do Now: Identify the figurative language used in the following sentences: ( simile,  hyperbole, metaphor, personification, alliteration, irony, or onomatopoeia?
1. His shoes are the dirtiest pair of sneaks in Philadelphia.
2. He made that music moan with melody.
3. The title of the poem with a heartbreaking episode is "Incident".
4.  Countee Cullen writes that the white boy is the golden splendor of the day.
5.  Must you slurp your soup when you eat?
6. The woman is like an encyclopedia; she knows everything.
7. In Early Autumn, by Langston Hughes, the leaves danced around Bill and Mary in the park.
Vocabulary Review: Define the following roots and affixes.

Research assignment.  Get your laptop. Finish assembling your notes on the Harlem Renaissance. Begin to organize your information into three categories. Make sure you have a topic sentence for each category.

Homework: Write the topic sentence for each of the three categories ( or subdivisions ) you will discuss in your research paper. These are the main parts of your paper.
