Do Now:  ( Journal )What's your New Year's Resolution? What will you do to make it happen? ( 5 lines - 5 minutes)
Take out your notebooks to take notes on The Romantic Period of American Literature.

The first piece of literature we'll be reading sets the tone for the Romantic Period.
"The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls" by Longfellow
Literary elements to look for: alliteration, personification, and imagery.
What is the mood of the poem?
What is the setting and time frame?
What is Longfellow's message?
Constructed Response: Explain Longfellow's theme in "The Tide Rises..." Cite two examples from the poem that illustrates how he uses imagery to express his theme.

Homework:The Poem is on  P. 55 in  The Holt Reader: Answer the constructed response question using TAG and the formula. ( 50 points ).
