Do Now: The main idea of the paragraph is that cell phones should not be allowed in school. Decide which sentences are essential and which are nonessential.
1. Cell phones are distracting. Students text in class.
2. Cell phones are annoying to teachers when they ring during instruction.
3. Students need their phones in case of emergency.
4. Students can use their cell phones to cheat on tests.
5. Cell phones carry high monthly service charges especially if they are used during the school day.
6. Teachers use cell phones to conduct personal business during class.
7. Cell phones are responsible for increasing numbers of accidents especially during the morning commute to school.
