Imagine you were denied an education – that you were forbidden by law to learn to read or write – that you would be severely beaten if you were found with a book – that anyone trying to teach you was also beaten. Are you taking full advantage of your educational opportunities? Why? Why not?

Today we will be continuing with the first episode as well as Douglass' struggle to learn to read and write.
Make sure you are marking the text to help you answer all of the reading questions.
Homework: Finish answering all questions. You must have your list of at least four quotations from the text that you find "amazing". These may be images you like, use of language and sentence structure, or refer to events in his life.
