Do Now: Which virtues did you select from Franklin's list that might improve your life? Why?
from The Autobiography:
Class discussion: What do the virtues mean in plain English.
Select one that you will try to follow for 24 hours.
1. Write it at the top of a clean sheet of notebook paper. This is your 24 hour diary.
2. On the left hand side of the paper, write the blocks of time that make up your day: At home in the morning, on the way to school, class periods, lunch, leaving school, etc.
3. Keep notes in each time block. Were you able to keep the virtue? Why?
4. At the end of your diary write a brief paragraph that explains what you learned about yourself as a result of this 24 hour period.
Read Robert Fulghum's list of virtues. How does it differ from Franklin's? Pick a virtue from this list and describe the behaviors that might accompany it. Use Franklin's precepts as an example.
Homework: Bring your diary to class with you tomorrow for this week's laptop project. Note : Test: Tuesday - Benjamin Franklin and The Age of Reason
