Essay: Trials and Tribulations (5 paragraphs!) ( in your handouts - Bradstreet Poem)
In the Book of Job from the Bible, Job endures great misery, yet he is still able to say, “The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord” (Job 1:21). Bradstreet expresses a similar attitude in her poem; twice she checks herself from mourning over the loss of her beloved possessions. The first instance is in lines 14–20; the second begins with line 37. In a well developed essay, discuss Bradstreet’s attitude toward earthly suffering and the providence of God. Cite details from the poem to support your analysis. Submit in presentation format.
The basics:
Body: Look at the three sections of the poem. How does she handle her trial and tribulations in each part? Where is the conflict? What does religion have to do with it?
Introduction: Must contain a thesis and an effective opening.
Conclusion - Summary of key points ( the thesis ) and an effective closing line.
